Great train! Excellent quality as expected from BRIO!

Some of the negative reviews made us buy this green Freight Battery Engine train for our little kid who loves Brio style trains and rails. After a lot of research, this one seemed like the best choice no matter what and we bought it for him for Christmas. This train was so wonderful! It's exactly what you'd expect from Brio: solid, reliable, fun. The train easily hauls 3-4 carriages over the hills on the track and can haul 10+ carriages over the flat, it doesn't move fast but chugs on and never

Pros
  • 1 year trial
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Great engine until the tire tread wears out.

The drive wheels on this motor (and others I've purchased) have a rubber tread to create friction between the spinning wheels and the wood track. Children (and adults) are reluctant to manually shut off the engine when it is stuck, causing the drive wheels to spin and the wooden track to wear down the tread. With regular use, the profile wears out and the motor loses traction because it runs on the rim of the plastic tire. It turns out that the tread is on the edge of the rubber disc sandwiched

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • old

Happy move for Brio lovers

My 3 year old son loves this train. He's fun to play with, but he's not perfect. The great thing: - Requires only one AA battery, which is relatively easy to replace. - nice LED light - powerful enough to pull a long train What could be better: - the buttons are not so easy to press for the little ones - the train is higher than many bridges and tunnels in the standard Brio set - it will often get stuck on climbs and descents - only one axle rotates so sometimes having to reverse hills or pull…

Pros
  • Everything is fine!

Interchangeable access.

I bought this Brio freight train for my son, at the same time I bought the Brio steam engine (both battery operated) and he used them less than the Brio steam engine but the rubber on the wheel because the is freight train worn to plastic. Without rubber, the train cannot go uphill. No big deal, I removed the rubber and added an equal amount of rope on either side to fill the hole just enough for the rubber to show. When removing the rubber on one side I see that there is a gap in the rubber…

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Slightly dented

The little engine that couldn't

Received today. I was very excited when I opened it but was more disappointed than last season of Lost when I finally turned it on for my son. On a flat road it can crawl 3 small trucks like those sold in cheap starter kits. If I use the fourth car, it won't move much. I have one of the small bridges. gentle slope to climb the bridge. If my engine pulls more than 1 small car, it cannot take a slight incline. With three at the back, it gets stuck on crooked tracks even on level ground. If I had…

  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Modern

Let's be fair to this little engine. . .

Okay, let's be honest. This is a very small engine. Runs on one (1) AA battery. This is a children's toy. is it fast no Does he have to go fast? Probably not (back to that childhood toy). Should this little engine pull 20 cars up a vertical hill? no That would be crazy. So here's my two cents: This motor does what it's supposed to do - slowly pulls two or three small cars down a wooden track (made for kids) and a moderate slope. If you want it to work flawlessly all the time, you can forget…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
