If you start the game with bad cards

This expansion pack addresses many of the criticisms of the first monster boss, namely a serious comment that you have crappy cards at the beginning of the game, you will fall behind everyone and never catch up. It's also a pretty decent standalone game, meaning it could make the game better overall than the first monster boss. I have Boss Monster 1 and 2 and I can say that the combination of decks adds variety to the game. I'd also recommend a house rule to draw a spell card about every three…

In itself not so good.

As the owner of the original Boss Monster, I was very excited about this set. Boss Monster is very successful at most of the parties I take him to, dispelling the doubts of the other party members. This advertises itself as a standalone expansion, meaning you don't need the original to play with it. While these cards are enough to play with, my friends found that the cards didn't have as much synergy as the original set. Combined with the original set, the new cards really shine. They expand…

Great but needs a bit of tweaking

Boss Monster is a fun little game but it lacks variety. Boss Monster 2 improves on this a bit with some much-needed additions (and rulebook clarifications), but overall it's the same game. I think it depends on how fun your friends are and how your personal rules change. For example, instead of the usual "all players take a room" phase, we use a draft format - the player whose turn it is now draws multiple room cards (equal to the number of players +1) and then chooses one for themselves .
