THE ONLY REAL RADIO I could find on the market!

GENUINE high performance radio. It's hard with 4 D cells. good solid simple controls. No multifunctional junk that you can't see in the dark. When you turn it off, it turns itself off, unlike other small radios that can just switch bands instead of turning off and draining your batteries. !

Pros
  • Still satisfied
Cons
  • Damaged

It is very difficult to tune into a station in FM or AM mode.

. After playing for a while, the FM frequency goes out and needs to be retuned. AM is VERY difficult to tune in as it comes and goes instead of constant background noise when you can find a station and try to tune in. FM is not much better, very sensitive. The double antenna matching is a joke. The backlight button doesn't work, it stays on all the time, draining the batteries. I'm returning the one I bought.

Pros
  • . Easy to read control panel.
Cons
  • . Piggy bank prize.

Terrible Radio doesn't belong with HYPE!

I've read many online reviews of this radio and despite numerous complaints about crackling and other DSP issues, many claim it's an MW DX unit. NO, THAT IS NOT SO. My device could barely pick up WFAN, 660, from New York and I'm in New Jersey! My old, classic, original GE Superradio blows that away without the need for useless DSP tricks and do-daddy stuff. With all due respect to the C. Crane company, it seems they normally make overpriced, advertised plastic radios that just aren't that…

Do not recommend - short wave radios

I bought this radio because we had such good luck with two similar CC Crane radios many, many years ago. (Old radios still work.) The differences between old and new radios are disappointing. When you turn on the radio, you will hear a loud click and a delay. The company says it's normal. Normal maybe, but annoying. Another difference is that older radios used to completely drain their batteries. Newer radios stop working when the batteries are half full, making them more expensive to operate…

Disappointed - Radios

I've always heard these are great radios so I bought one to take on a trip to Utah. I was disappointed with the performance. Battery life was great; the same set of batteries lasted five days, the radio was on most of the day and into the evening, but the reception wasn't very good. I was in a remote area in Fishlake National Forest outside of Salina, Utah. There was no cellular service and AM radio was slightly better. Don't know if it was radio or just not many stations available, but…

Excellent AM reception on shortwave radios

Excellent radio for AM dx-ing. I have several top quality portable radios that are designed to receive weak or distant AM signals and this radio does a much better job than all but 1. This radio is a true analogue of the very old Radio Shack that is no longer for sale being offered while mine is at the end of its useful life. If you look at many reviews you will see that the best AM DX radios, like the GE Superadio, are basically ten years old and only available on ebay and the like for the…

VERSION 2020 AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL!

UPDATED DECEMBER 31, 2020: This radio has just been tested in the harsh Texas camping environment of extreme temperatures, dust, fog and low humidity during rainy spells and it worked one day and 70 two days in freezing temperatures flawless weeks. Another radio I had with me stopped working below 45F. I've been using D EBL batteries the whole time and they still last about 8-12 hours a day on a single charge when run on medium to high volume are used. CCrane has listened to customers and fixed

DSP Needs Work: Radios

This is a great radio concept - receiver uses Digital Signal Processing (DSP), AM antenna with two coils for better reception and designed to receive AM and FM broadcast bands only. I'm a big fan of AM antennas, owning and using a C. Crane external active AM antenna and a C. Crane SW radio that also uses the same antenna. Having not seen the AM receiver circuitry in the C. Crane EP Pro AM/FM radio, I have to make some assumptions about this receiver based on experiences with other DSP radios I…
