Ideal for use with Android phone

The cable works great with Linux clients (ttyUSB0) as well as Android phones with a USB-C connection. I've had it for over a year now and I think I've only used it on Juniper switches. I think when using a PC as a client there were no problems, but on Android there were problems with the cable. For use on Android I downloaded Kai Moric's Serial USB Terminal app. The output can sometimes become garbage, but reinstalling the cable usually fixes this problem.

Pros
  • Computer and accessories
Cons
  • Update available

Working computers and accessories

Used successfully once and then stopped working. I've tried reinstalling drivers etc. Again, I've used USB-C to serial and serial to RJ45 console cables, which work great. Update: Cable issues sent me a second unit that seems to work. As I work from home I can't really verify this, but I plugged it into my laptop a few times and the cable was recognized. I think Kabel is ok, but I think Kabel's customer support is great.

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • confused

Will NOT work on the new Macbook Pro

One of the worst installation instructions (for Mac) I can come up with and after following the instructions closely it doesn't work! Cable Matters is a good company. But the FDTI chipset is, in my opinion, a colossal POS of the first order, and that is what this cable is based on. I spent about four hours trying to do this and it just didn't work. Then I took my old Cisco cable and USB to serial cable, launched Iterm2, added the USB Type A to Type C adapter, followed some basic instructionsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Cables and Connections
Cons
  • Faulty

Not the most convenient, but works as expected

The cable works as expected: plug it in, the system (both OSX-10.14 and Win10) recognizes it, install the driver and you're good to go. Race in no time. The cable includes a protective tab, which is a big plus, but with a star because of the awkward knot on the cable.

Pros
  • Computer accessories and peripherals
Cons
  • Not sure

If you need to connect to serial console.

Required for use with new USB-C laptops if your function requires easy access to serial consoles on routers, switches, etc. If you know what that is, you need one. NOTE: For those who do NOT know what this is. This is a USB-C to RS232-RJ45 adapter. This is NOT a USB-C to Ethernet adapter. Yes, both use RJ45. No, they are not interchangeable. Ethernet adapters are available, but this is not one.

Pros
  • Reverse USB-C cable connects directly to a router, switch, server or wireless access point for console port configuration; Connect this switch console cable directly instead of using an adapter cable. Software hardware with no network or internet connection
Cons
  • Large and bulky

WILL NOT WORK on the new Macbook Pro

. You see, Cable Matters is a good company. But the FDTI chipset is, in my opinion, a colossal POS of the first order, and that is what this cable is based on. I spent about four hours trying to do this and it just didn't work. Then I took my old Cisco cable and USB to serial cable, launched Iterm2, added a USB Type A to Type C adapter, followed some basic instructions and boom, it works. So it CAN be done because I did it! But not with an FTDI chip and instructions, that's for sure, not on myโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Easy installation of this USB-C console cable with FTDI drivers and instructions downloadable from the Cable Matters website; Windows 10 and the latest macOS usually include FTDI drivers as part of the operating system when using this FTDI USB cable.
Cons
  • . Long delivery time
