Description of πŸ”Œ Cable Matters Internal SFF-8087 to SFF-8482

Internal Mini SAS data + power cable connects a SAS controller to 4 separate SAS HDD drives; Forward fanout cable has 1x latching SFF 8087 Mini SAS host connector and 4x discrete SAS target hard drive SFF 8482 connectors. SCSI controller to SAS cable provides internal computer connectivity between a Serial Attached SCSI controller card host and direct attached storage hard drives; 36 pin SFF-8087 Host connector and 4x SAS 29 pin SFF-8482 data and power Target drive connectors. DIY or pro installers require a forward fan-out cable with an internal mSAS connector when expanding storage needs for Storage Area Network (SAN) or Direct Attached Storage (DAS) applications; Sturdy molded connectors provide a secure connection; Slim ribbon cables in a woven mesh sheath minimize airflow impact in a computer case; Integrated SATA power supply cables make it easy to see what is connected. Didn't work best in computers and accessories

Drives wouldn't turn on when using this cable. I replaced the cable with a cable with Molex power connectors and the drives powered up and were visible to the SAS controller. The SATA power cables from the server are working properly and providing power to the SATA drives with no problem. It's definitely the cable.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Hard to remember, but it was

Improvement needed

This cable does not support the "Power Disable function" of modern SAS3 hard drives: they do not boot when the system is powered on. This is easy to fix, just cut all four orange wires (orange only, not yellow) of this cable and then modern SAS3 drives will work very well. The quality of this cable isn't the best, but it works well.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Almost OK

The good guys who set the standard for SAS decided to repurpose the 3.3V pin on the SATA power connector as very few drives ever used it. If you try to use this cable on a drive with this feature, it will most likely not boot up or be recognized. An easy way to test this is to power the drive from a 4-pin Molex to SATA power adapter. If the drive works with a 4-pin Molex connector but not with a 5-wire SATA power connector, the problem is with the 3.3V power connector. In my case, I decided to…

Pros
  • Sturdy finish
Cons
  • Some bugs

This is a great SAS cable. The quality is very high, which justifies the above-average price. I was getting "unexpected signals" from my LSI controller and suspected my previous cable wasn't very secure. This cable is very tightly connected to the hard drive. Likewise, the SATA power connector is very tightly connected to the power supply cable. Very secure connections. All of my unexpected sensory messages were resolved. The SATA power connectors are good if you have a large case and the PSU…

Works great with LSI HBA

Perfect fit for my LSI HBA! I bought some cheap SAS drives and had to swap SATA cables for SAS cables. This totally serves the purpose! extend.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Modern

Well made and as described

This is a very well made cable. Works great in my RAID 10 configuration with 4 x 4TB SAS drives. Exactly what I wanted and as described. I found a similar cable from another vendor at a slight discount but got this one 2 days later with Prime. Since I needed it immediately, I was willing to spend a few euros more. I recommend this cable.

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Damaged

Works well with mini SAS cables

My only concern was that this was a quality product and if it would give me true 12Gb performance with 10k/15k SAS drives. Yes, that's right.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Some difficulties

I broke one and had to replace it. Otherwise great cable!

I have these for my 10TB HGST drives that I have that are 4KN drives. They worked PERFECTLY on these drives. I know that if the drives wouldn't spin up I would have to cut the ORANGE wire and that would fix it for this drive. but I had none of these problems. One of my cables, I ordered two, broke, so I took a star off, otherwise it would have been 5 stars. I get full speeds like I should and it didn't break the bank.

  • Not bad but...

The good people who set the standard for SAS decided to use the 3.3V pin on the SATA power connector to be reassigned for another purpose. because very few drives have ever used it. Pros
  • Amateur or professional installers need a direct fanout cable with an internal mSAS connector when expanding storage needs for Storage Area Network (SAN) or Direct Attached Storage (DAS) applications; Robust molded connectors ensure a secure connection; Thin braided ribbon cables with mesh jacket minimize the effects of airflow inside the computer case; Integrated SATA power cables make it easy to see what's connected

  • Big and bulky
