Description of Cable Matters 50-Foot CL2 In-Wall Rated Oxygen-Free Bare Copper 2 Conductor Speaker Wire (Speaker Cable) - 16 AWG

This pro-grade 16 AWG, CM and CL2 rated speaker wire is an ideal choice for connecting your loud speakers or car audio speaker wire to an AV receiver or amplifier in a 2.1, 5.1, or 7.1 channel home theater system. Speaker wires with heavy gauge conductors are made of solid oxygen-free copper as opposed to copper clad aluminum (CCA) audio wire or copper clad steel (CCS) stereo wire to resist corrosion and deliver pristine sound. Speaker cable has durable PVC jacket which complies with the CL2 rating for the fire safety requirements for car audio cable. Two conductors of the speakers wire are jacketed with color-coded PVC for easy polarity identification. Premium speaker cables wrapped around a plastic spool in the box for easy and convenient speaker wiring installation without kinks.

Shorted me out on a wire good for cables and connections

I bought this and the price is excellent for the length described but they half shorted me out and I fixed the problem and the other half like received promised. It's a good speaker cable and solid material for my needs to allow surround sound connection.

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Used in another application

I bought this cable because of its strength and because it's copper, not because it's advertised as "speaker cable". It powers the electric eye attached to my Mighty Mule Gate Opener, is hard coated and easily pulls through a PVC cord for this purpose.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Some minor things

Large speaker cable in AV accessories

Bought in addition to a 250ft wall mount reel for a new pre-wiring design for surround sound. The outer shield is white and the cable information is bold and clearly marked throughout the length of the cable. Inside the outer shield is a shielded black and red wire. The wire is strong and connected to banana plugs to connect to the bandage board. Easy to assemble and lasts a long time.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Ordered more in audio cable

This is my second order as the first order went into operation too soon! I wanted another 100ft spool, but I had to make do with two 50ft spools. I don't know about the sound quality; I use the cord for 12 volt lighting circuits in my home and off the grid. The cable diameter is about the size of a pencil, so it is very comfortable to hold and easy to wind. I'll buy more if needed.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • boring packaging

Ideal for 12V DC CL2 for LED lighting

I have used this to connect 12V DC from a power supply to an LED strip under a cabinet and to an LED strip in a previously very dark place Deliver closet that now lights up like Times Square. The cable route to the cabinets was through the soffits above the cabinets and through the loft to the cabinet so I needed the right CL2 for the wall/ceiling routing and this cable fitted the bill. Any cabling enclosed in this manner must have an outer jacket to conform to the CL2 standard.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • I will add later

It serves its purpose, but the quality drops a bit.

Need new cable for my surround speakers but didn't need that much so I wanted to save a few bucks and decided to do it in a 50 foot spool rather than a 100 foot to buy coil. a pure copper coil from Mediabridge (currently connected to my other speakers). Both should be 16 gauge, but the Cable Matters cable is slightly smaller, almost like 18 gauge, and has fewer actual wires than the Mediabridge product. . Cable Matters are also much stiffer and seem cheaper than Mediabridge, which is easier to…

Great price plus three tips on how to use it

Excellent value for money pure copper speaker cable. A few points to note based on the reviews: 1. It's not as hard as I expected based on the reviews. Not as rigid as the Romex cable. Just don't expect it to be as flexible as cheap speaker cable.2. Like most speaker cables, it is unshielded. Therefore, do not install it too close to power cords or extension cords.3. Use a utility knife for the stripping issues mentioned in some reviews, but be careful to apply the coating at right angles to…

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Useless features

Very stiff in speaker cable

I love cable shop and cable 2 but I didn't like this particular cable, the main reason is the relatively stiff cable and there is a noticeable gap between the outer jacket and the inner conductor. Maybe I'm being unfair since it's an in-wall cable, but I was treated to a Monster Cable S14-R2-CL, which was 14 AWG in-wall with the outer insulation sort of taped in, so between the outer ones there was no gap in the insulation and the individual cores of this cable were very flexible, so that good…
