Great versatile lens.

A very good lens when you are unsure of what you are looking at. It's not as fast as the rest of my glass, but it's still a good lens. Fast and quiet autofocus, easily adjustable friction control for zoom slides. It's even positioned to be changed with one hand while holding the lens. The IS is good enough that you don't need a tripod, not even one as slow as 1/60 or even a few stops slower. It's heavy, but if you're used to carrying gear around, it won't be big. deal with it. It's still…

I love this lens for lenses

First of all, this is a very heavy lens. It can be distressing. I'll also admit that I'm a bit remorseful because of buyers' remorse, because this is a very expensive lens, but every time I look at the photos I've taken with it, I know it's worth the money is. I cannot recommend this lens. If you don't know, you need a different length. 28-300 is a wide range and if you can use lenses with a different range (24-70, 70-200, 100-400) there may be another larger aperture/lighter/cheaper lens that…

Highly recommended. I read every review and watched every video.

Highly recommended. I have read every review and watched every video I could find on this lens. I think the reviews are correct. If you read and watch them, you'll know exactly what you're buying. The only downside to this lens, which I think is undeniable, is its weight. Yes, it's a bit difficult. It doesn't bother me at 6ft 180lbs but it can be a little off-putting for some. However, I love every other feature and aspect of this lens and feel that the weight is just a by-product of superior…

It is what it is, but it's great at what it does.

The ins and outs of this lens are probably well known to anyone interested in this review. This is a 15 year old design and among Canon's "smaller" white lenses it is the heaviest and most expensive. The 11x zoom range requires numerous optical trade-offs, and sometimes they are visible. With just one lens is the best you can get. The lens certainly lives up to its L designation and is a lot better than the other two all-in-one lenses: the EF 28-200mm USM (a 19-year-old design) and the EF…

Canon's most versatile lens

Well it arrived a day early which was just in time! I had to do event photography for a social distancing event. For the past 4+ years I've rented this lens for every wedding and large event I needed to cover so I finally bought it for the first time! This lens is undoubtedly the most versatile. in the Canon line. There's nothing quite like doing a 28mm long shot of say a ballroom in one moment and then zooming in in the next 5 or so seconds and having a speaker on the podium at 300mm standing…

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • Not everything fits
