Why does Carhartt have such a good reputation? Have never been satisfied with their products. These base layers are no exception. They are not "heavy". The material is thin. Light, true to size, comfortable. I bought these for my adult grandson who works outside every day in Illinois cold weather. I was disappointed when my grandson told me that these expensive thermal pants were no warmer than the other two traditional underpants I bought him; especially when traditional sets are a quarter of the price. I expected the Carhartt name to mean quality. I don't recommend you to spend money if you don't want light pants to be worn under ski pants.

I expected more from Carhartt. There's no way they're even remotely heavy. maybe a heavier light weight, but NOT a heavy weight. They are only 20% wool on the front, not on the left side. 5'10, 165lbs I ordered small and medium due to medium fit. I usually wear a medium shade on Carhartt products and decided to just try both to see which one suits better. The little one fits well with just a bottle neck around the waist. It is not enough to cause problems when carrying a backpack during the hunting season.
