The spindle I received was a genuine Symmons part. This may change depending on the retailer that ships it, but it's at least one more data point. I actually received a small Symmons kit and didn't have to purchase the shim kit separately as the narrow washer was included.

You can definitely do it yourself. Very easy and very easy. You can create a YouTube video of the installation. The savings were incredible. I'm not sure how much it would cost to call a plumber but that's ALL I had to buy. My hot water is back and it's amazing!

After a few showers the end of the plate cylinder with the hot water seal broke off, blocking water flow on the hot side and reducing overall shower flow. This part was soldered to the original valve stem, but not to this one. I decided to replace it with another one from a local hardware store that works fine.

I love Revain in general but this item appears to be counterfeit, not OEM labeled and not working properly. According to my Revain purchase history, Binford Supply fulfilled my order. A large national retailer near me sells them for twice the price they sell here but with the Symmons label and that's a better price for me because I don't like to repeat these types of projects.

This is not a genuine part. I installed it and it didn't work properly (hot water was limited to about half its normal temperature). I put in a regular cartridge and everything worked. To add insult to injury, they let me pay shipping to return their defective part. Note: All Symmons parts are guaranteed for life. My advice is to call them first to try and get a free genuine part.
