no more UTIs in my kitten

My cat has had intermittent UTIs her entire life. Every time she gets infected, she starts peeing all over the house! I read somewhere that using a water softener filter would reduce their incidence of UTIs. So I bought a Catit fountain and these filters that remove excess calcium from the water. She hasn't had a single urinary tract infection since we started using this filter. I always flush and know from my aquarium that when I flush it, when I stop hearing the charcoal cackle, it's all gone

  • Impressive

  • Definitely a bad product

Much better than the old filters

I have two Hagen Catit fountains. An old light green version and I have a new teal blue one. I used the old filters in green until I got a newer version with those filters and the new filters do the job just fine. Much better than the old filters. I've often noticed coarse slime in the green fountain, and with these new filters it's almost gone. The new style filters go really well with the old style fountain (they are almost the same design). I probably change the filters every few months when

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Poor maintainability

They don't work anymore.

When I bought the Catit fountain it came with one of these and worked great. But something changed in the design and the replacement bag I bought got clogged causing water to settle on top of the fountain. I examined the first one that did, washed it off, tried again and a few days later same thing. Tried the second one in the pack, same problem. The charcoal seems to be sticking together, or maybe something else in the filter (not quite sure what it's called) is sticking together and not…

The original filter that came with the Catit fountain worked great and lasted a month. When I put a replacement in, water didn't flow through well. I took it out, rinsed it under the tap again and tried again. However, the water flowed so slowly that it receded. I tried another filter that worked a little better but still wasn't as good as the original filter. The next day I saw that the water was bubbling up (due to the slow flow, the water was always at the top of the filter area). I changed…

One filter lasts a good 6 months

At around $5 each these filters aren't very affordable but I just leave them on for way longer than the "recommended" amount of time. If you run the fountain without a filter after about 2 days, the pump inlet will become clogged with cat hair. That's the main reason I use a filter, I'm less worried about the perceived softening of the water. With that in mind I leave them on for 6 months before changing them. I wash it thoroughly every 2 weeks when I do my rest of the fountain and I have no…

Buy these not a set of 3 replacement filters

I used them on a large dog it bowl that serves 3 dogs and 2 cats. I've been using it for about 4 months and use 1 filter. I have been using this fountain for several years. I thought the bowl's low cost was offset by the purchase of flimsy filters like printer ink. I got them to try to see if they lasted longer than a pack of 3 foam filters. So far I am very impressed with them and will not buy foam filters again. This filter is a rigid plastic base with four filter compartments covered with…
