VERY thick wire. in the fuse. I stripped the ferrules from the end, crimped them onto another wire harness I was assembling, then used color coded heat shrink tubing to give it a finished look. I've tested it (on my light aircraft no less) and it actually works very well. Couldn't be happier.

Another reviewer said so, but I'll repeat it. There are two reasons to have a backup. The first reason is to prevent too much current from what you plugged into the outlet, the second is to protect the cord itself in the event of a short circuit. The backup in this setup is useful for the first reason, but not the second. It is too close to the outlet and does not protect the cable itself from a short circuit. I bought this to connect an extra socket to a key in my car. That said, the 12v outlets in my car are "always on" and I didn't really want to cut and solder them, I just wanted an extra outlet. Since it's tucked under and away and I won't be constantly plugging and unplugging things (this is for a DVR) it worked well. My only real complaint is that the wire is very thick and a little bulky.
