Does what others have said - a temporary phone mount. I have an iPhone5 with a small rubber case and it fits well without removing the case. In the cold, the suction will not stick to the torpedo without exposing the sticky bottom. But the sticky soil is not permanent (it takes some effort to remove, but it will come off).

I thought I'd give this a try because I thought it was just another suction cup phone stand. Well, the thing is great, has been stuck to my dashboard for a long time. Even survived the AZ summer, and it's getting hot in the car. However, the spring is firm, so if you have a large phone it can be difficult to insert and remove. Otherwise a very good phone holder.
