95 works well but not great

Comet Original CH-32 144/440/900MHz Miracle Baby Tri-Band Handheld Antenna - $34.95 BNC connector works well but not great. Also a bit expensive.

but not very good for long-distance travel

Suitable for close-up signals, but not so good for long-distance travel. Also works well for 700-800 systems, weakens for high VHF and terrible for low frequencies.

    • Robust design

Cosmetic issue for CB and talkback radios

Top was missing. In the photo, my old left that I'm holding has the brand logo on top of the antenna. The one that was shipped to me has an empty recessed area where the logo should be.

Nothing special. - Portable audio and video

Nothing special. If what you want to hear is local and has a very strong signal, it works great on portable devices and doesn't get in the way. However, don't expect it to trigger medium-strength signals. It works better than it looks.

Good not so good - CB and talkback radios

Repeater (8 miles line of sight) with VHF 5W or UHF 4 miles line of sight) 5W not met with this antenna. With the diamond antenna SRH 32OA (higher Dbi gain) I could easily hit the repeater. Small antenna, portable, discreet and great to have near a repeater. I have one with plenty of reinforcements on hand.

    Good low profile antenna

Considering the size, reception performance at 800MHz is good. I bought it to pair with a Uniden 436HP scanner. This doesn't beat the performance of the Radio Shack 800 antenna. In fact, the Radio Shack antenna gives you a reception bar or two on top. But if you're only a few miles from a broadcast tower or radio source and want something unobtrusive, then this is the antenna for you. I will use it for my scanner in the office.

    For 70cm hotspots ONLY use

Don't buy this if you want good range in a compact package. (It doesn't exist anyway). This antenna was designed to make the radio less physically uncomfortable to operate when operating at very close ranges. It is NOT designed to project a signal further than a standard antenna. I have used it when phoning at home via my DStar hotspot as it makes carrying my D74 around the house or garden much easier. For that, it works GREAT! But as soon as I leave the house to go somewhere with the radio, I…
