Hard to find in hardware stores

Before polarized plugs became popular, these surface mount outlets were a popular way to add an extra outlet in a convenient location. These days they are almost impossible to find in a hardware store. To install it, you need to be sure you've connected it correctly (if you don't know how to do it, there's a 50/50 chance you'll get reverse polarity). Perhaps that is why they are not available for DIY enthusiasts.

really safe surface mount

this product is exactly what you expect. This is a mount for mounting on a solid surface. It comes with all the screws you need, but they're all slotted, not Phillips or Robertson, so you probably won't use them, but they tried. The base of these units is solid. The top cover is large enough to route wiring underneath. Remember that one end of the cover has only one slot for the incoming cable, so you'll need to cut out a second slot if you want to use it in a line along the cable.

Easy to install and connect.

This surface mount outlet is well made, easy to connect and works well for my application. I wanted to install an outlet in the bathroom closet to provide a more convenient power source for a couple of electric toothbrush chargers. I attached the base of this outlet to a small block of wood and used a few pan head screws to attach the block to the underside of a plastic shelf in the closet, just above the two toothbrush chargers. I cut and stripped three wires in the extension cord and attached
