Not strong enough for some scanners

I bought this to attach to a metal armrest/thermal printer mount and to store a Honeywell barcode scanner (driver's license) in my police car . The magnetic back attaches to the printer mount with a decent amount of force, but could be a bit stronger for my purposes. When I installed the scanner in the mount, I couldn't find a position to hold it securely. When the scanner was placed handle down, it was held just 0.25-0.5 inches from the mount.
