Should not be used to set gaps on laser iridium spark plugs

It measures gap but cannot be used to actually set gap, at least not on laser iridium spark plugs. The instructions state that you must not pry open the contacts between the two contacts, otherwise the connector will be damaged. I suggest paying a little more and buying one that has a small built in knurling tool to bend the pin to set the gap. I ended up using needle nose pliers to adjust the gap.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Nothing here

Great solid gauge and spacer

I like simple things because they last longer than complex ones. This gap design has been around for as long as I can remember. It's as simple as it gets and does the job well. Even random handling for years in a shop or backyard will not affect its effectiveness. If you don't tend to lose things, it will take your whole life, your son or daughter's life, the next generation and so on, until we just stop using internal combustion engines that need spark plugs. Then it becomes a collector's…

Pros
  • Very good price

Works but could be more economical

It says Made in America so it probably costs twice what you can buy in retail stores in America that ship from China. Such is the sad state of American industry. I was concerned about the accuracy based on other scientific tolerance measurements, but since I had an Amazon gift card I decided to purchase. It was easy and I got a spark! So any tolerance we're dealing with is tolerable I think, and that's enough for it to work. kewl and splurge because it's not the deep etch I mean.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Good but not great

No precision in tools and equipment

I would not recommend this tool. I used this to check my NGK spark plugs and realized something was wrong after the first 3 I checked seemed way below what they should have been installed from the factory. Of course I checked it with my calipers and it was about 0.004 inches. For example, I had to set the spacing to 0.044 inches, but to set the spacing correctly I had to check them until the gauge read 0.004 inches. "The stomata hole wasn't very useful. I think it's too big. I was afraid it…

Pros
  • Robust surface

This is very useful when you know the offset.

The numbers are not exact. I checked again with a very accurate digital caliper and this tool is 0.005 different in all dimensions except 1 inch which is 0.003 different in my tool (see pictures). However, at just $2, this is a great budget one. cork breaking tool. As long as you know the offsets, you don't need an expensive tool. It does the job. And indeed, the tolerances on the motors are not exactly measured. This is a range but check your manual it will tell you how much it could be. For…
