I was able to use thinning scissors just fine. Ordinary ones would be very difficult to use for haircuts. Since they are not sharp when you try to cut your hair they just squeeze the hair causing it to cut unevenly or push out of the scissors tip. These scissors are great. Most hairdressing scissors are too tight around my fingers, but these don't hurt me. They are very sharp and cut hair perfectly. They work fine even on thick, coarse hair, which is important to me. I've had issues with other scissors that don't cut hair as accurately as these on thicker hair. The value is amazing.
