📶 D-Link DWL-G122: Compact Wireless USB Adapter with 802.11g Technology and 54Mbps Speed Review

Installation went smoothly. Turns on with no extra effort. It's a bit strange that nothing happens when I double click on the desktop icon, but I configured the network adapter in Windows and it works. I'm not sure about the performance/sensitivity specs - my location is very close to the router so I can't comment on long-distance performance.

Signal was ok + uneven in places, had to adjust adapter by unplugging and plugging back into USB port to reconnect wireless signal. In/after 6 months the adapter died. Purchased a replacement adapter: Trendnet TEW423PI 54Mbps 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter - and has worked great so far, stronger signal/link, although it does need to be plugged into your PC.

Adapter works fine. Very easy to install. Everything works like clockwork with the Linksys wireless router. The signal level is always very good or excellent. However, the adapter does not work well with the Belkin wireless router. I'm not sure if the router was defective or if the adapter was incompatible. It kept dropping connections. I switched the router to Linux and there were no problems after that.

I bought this antenna and the NETGEAR WG111 antenna to compare two products. The D-LINK DWL-G122 regularly connects at just 36Mbps, while the NETGEAR WG111 connected to the same computer in the same location reportedly connects at 54Mbps. Maybe it's just a coincidence with my computer or how the factory settings are configured, but that's what I observed.

I've worked a lot with D-Link products and I have to say they're very good, but if you're looking for a USB WiFi adapter, the works on Mac Choose DWL-122 and not G122, that small letter (G) tells you it doesn't work on MAC. I got distracted at checkout so I didn't notice a difference in the model and it's very easy to make that mistake. Apart from this great product.
