Fits Mini Cooper R56

Looks pretty good. Nicely packaged. It took about five minutes to install in my 2012 Mini Cooper. Place a towel under the hose, slide back the connector clamp, remove the connector. Squeeze the two plastic retaining clips and pull up firmly. Insert the new switch and wiggle it slightly to install the ring. Reinstall the connector, done. I work first. Let's see how long this lasts.

Fits 2012 Countryman (n18/R60 Turbo)

Fitted on a 2012 Cooper Mini Countryman S R60, exact match for my part. This part is located on the driver's side of the engine compartment, just below the plastic air duct that leads from the turbine to the mass air flow sensor and plenum. Simply pull the metal clip and disconnect the electrical connector. Then squeeze the plastic sides to release them from the metal bracket. Please note that this year/model it is in a knee separate from the thermostat housing used in other models.

Sensitive sensor best at coolant temp

The sensor works with my 2012 mini cooper coupe. However, it is delicate! This will almost always increase the fan speed. Even after switching off the ignition. Even on a cold day. The fan kept running after leaving the car. And resumes again after turning it off once. Also, the fan is noisy! Louder than I remember. And at the time of writing I'm still in the winter. I ended up needing it because of a coolant leak. In my opinion, a cold engine is better than a hot one. :)

DO NOT buy, only spend $50 on BMW/Mini OEM - will cause overheating!

SA42 Mini Countryman 2012 Weeks after installation, my car started to overheat. Several garages couldn't figure out what was wrong and required me to replace parts that didn't need to be replaced. $800 spent troubleshooting. This sensor turned out to be the culprit: it died after 2 weeks of use. Don't use it, just spend $50 and buy a BMW/Mini OEM sensor. Serious. The temperature was 250f and the car continued to go into limp mode. Bought a new normal sensor, the temperature is back to normal.

Pros
  • Sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

I replaced a known good sensor with this one while doing maintenance on my cooling system. Warmed up the car, drove it like everything is normal. Drove back into the garage to idle the car and found the fan wasn't spinning. Monitored the temperature through a hidden menu and the fan eventually turned on at 113 degrees Celsius but turned off again after the temperature dropped to 110 degrees Celsius. I parked the car as it was boiling heavily. The switch was defective and operating at a much…

Inexpensive function sensor

First of all I hate big sacks (BMWs) so that's all I can say about these cars. I lost my ass on this job and made less than minimum wage for all the hours I put into it. So when I discovered that a hardworking cleaning lady had thrown away the old lower radiator hose before I fished out that sensor, I was pretty pissed off, rage. More money down the drain. Finding a working sensor here for a fraction of what the thieves wanted and it only took two days, saving me a 120-mile round trip, was just

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Quality

So far, so good. Two issues that we believe are related to a potentially faulty optional electric cooling fan have been fixed: 1) The optional electric cooling fan would intermittently run at its highest "high temperature" speed even when the engine was warm or on cold days. Unusually loud. 2) This condition also caused the engine management system to go into "LIMP HOME" mode, significantly reducing engine power. In addition, replacing the coolant temperature sensor on the lower radiator hose…

How to test the cooling system

Perfect product, just what I was looking for. For the price, the quality was exceptional, indistinguishable from OEM. I have a BMW Z4 and what usually happens with these coolant sensors is the o-ring around it starts to wear out and deform, causing it to force coolant through the sensor under pressure. . I pulled it out very quickly and after that there were no problems. Can't comment on durability, only wore it for a few hours but looks like it will last a while in my opinion. If you're…

Fits my 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman S

I installed it on my 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman S. The machine gave the code for the coolant temperature sensor. I put this in, erased the code from the car with a simple code reader and it was great. I originally bought the sensor from the dealer. They used the VIN to tell me which sensor I needed. The seller made a mistake, but through no fault of his own. Some of these cars were modified during production and had a different sensor installed. Our VIN required a sensor with an angled…
