Derale 16759 Adjustable Fan Controller Review

I bought this to use with the Flex-A-Lite Black Magic Extreme Electric Fan on my TJ. Works well. Installation was easy. I recommend a fuse on the positive cable to the fan. For people complaining about the relay switching ground, this actually works better. Outboard motors have been doing this for years with no problems. Would love to see a version that installs with a threaded plug in the top hose but works as intended.

It works as advertised but if you are running a large fan with it I will need to add a larger relay controlled by this fan controller. Also, I've had issues with flat tips on high current relays corroding, creating resistance that generates heat that eventually melts the relay socket. So I connect the wires directly to the relay terminals after coating them with a large amount of silicone dielectric grease. Then I cover the tips and bottom of the relay with Dip It plastic coating. I installed it on our 2007 Uplander in early summer along with an additional transmission cooler with fan. We wanted to tow a U-Haul 6x12 trailer from Orlando to Oklahoma City via Houston. So we bought this unit a year ago and it works perfectly! Tech Note: When extending cables, use wires of the same size. That guarantees no problems. Also, I installed this on my modified 1992 in-line Mustang and that engine gets hot fast. We hooked up a rocker switch in my dash to bypass the prop and manually start the fan in stop-and-go conditions.
