Don't buy, save money

Inexpensive. The mechanism is too loose on the scissors, so it falls out when you take the lever to open the scissors. You can't open the back door. In the end, I removed the plastic retaining sleeves and put the original artwork on like a charm. Looks like I paid too much money for the plastic retaining sleeves.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance

worked fine for a while for crankshaft position

I bought this almost a year ago, I don't open my pickup end door that often. I have a company car that I use all week and I expected Dorman to last longer. The latch doesn't pull on the bars at all. everything was replaced when I bought this bar. unsatisfied with durability, emailed for warranty support

Pros
  • understandable for old ones too
Cons
  • wait too long

Safe landing, now the trunk opens easily!

Fits well and is as indistinguishable as possible from the OEM. The included plastic clips on the tailgate latch rods are a bit messy so I removed them and replaced them with the clips from the old latch I took out. Installs in 10-15 minutes with T-40 Torx and pliers. The truck is a 2000 GMC Sierra (OBS, GMT-400).

Pros
  • Plus only
Cons
  • There are minuses

Only one side worked.

As others have written, only one side worked. The contact point was about 3/4 shorter on the left, so it slips off one side at about halfway up the grip. Bad quality control. Otherwise, the device is solid and works great on the one hand! I have returned the item. If they send one that works I will update the review.

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Tape

Bad big play on spares

As mentioned, too much play/play at the pivot point on the arm post. This causes or allows the swing arms to move too far and fall off the cam on the handle. I suppose I could bend my arms to get over the mud, but why? I just leave the old one and bend it a few more times. I suspect they leave extra slack to overcome another common mistake of this part of two arms welding/rusting together.

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Nothing here

Closures don't quite open

The part is well made and has significantly better stem locks than the factory original. However, when you pull the handle all the way out, the bars swing back a little, and therefore the latches don't retract far enough to open the tailgate. The works crank had small steel plates on a rocker mechanism that maintained a constant force throughout the crank's travel. This part only works when the handle is about 80% extended and the tailgate wobbles a bit. I took a hammer on my factory part to…

Pros
  • Expensive, but decent
Cons
  • Nothing

Worked for my Jeep in crank position

I know it's for a Chevy but I used it on my Jeep Comanche. The tailgate handle assembly for my truck is not repeatable and can be very expensive to use, but it fits dimensionally and requires minimal modification to the tailgate to fit. I am very happy with the fit and function in my app outside of the app. Installation required drilling and a bit of sanding on the back of the tailgate cutout, but that's about it. 20 minutes work. I know the handle often rots in Comanches and if this review…
