🔧 Dorman 912-079: Premium Hood Release Cable for Smooth and Reliable Operation Review

Everything was exactly as described and worked. I would give it 5 stars but all I needed was a plastic lever that is not sold separately.

The product is not of the quality that is needed. The cheap plastic handle breaks too easily in use (it breaks off most of the time). and the end of the cable is too short to attach the hood latch. It slides out easily compared to a real OEM clasp. EDIT: I am updating this review for the second time since they are changing my 1 STAR cheap to 5 stars.

I have to admit that I initially put off replacing this cable as I thought it was going to take about an hour and required a lot of bending, twisting etc. It's normal for the younger generation, but when you're knocking on the door at 50 and with a disability, these things matter. Well I have to admit that after removing the 3 screws holding the release button everything went surprisingly smoothly. Clear step by step instructions and I was done within 15-20 minutes. I put this on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. It worked great. Comes with its own mounting bolts for the tow arm. Same pitch as the original screws. I tied a piece of wire to the hood latch at the end of the wire that originally broke before pulling it down and through a hole in the firewall before pulling it out. After pulling it out, I moved the wire to the end of the new cable and pulled the wire back from the engine side of the firewall. This simplified the route through the firewall…
