Would not program: Replacement Sensors

I work at a Nissan dealership and know that Dorman products are generally of the highest quality. I ordered because it's a few bucks cheaper than an OEM unit. This sensor is completely dead. The factory programmer didn't see any signal at all. Fortunately, you can test this before installing.

FOR PROFESSIONALS ONLY IF YOU HAVE A TOOL TO PROGRAM THE SENSOR

I am a PRO with many tools and was unable to program the sensor as the sensor needs to be calibrated using the manufacturer's tool. SO EVEN IF YOU HAVE OTHER TPMS TOOLS, YOU CANNOT PROGRAM THESE SENSORS, VERY DELIGHTFUL

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Update available

Very good product but totally useless if you don't have a programmer. Don't take "programmers" as a "retraining tool" like me, these sensors require actual programming PRIOR to installation and then regular retraining after installation. The cheapest Dorman programmer I've found is about $250, I just buy a pre-programmed sensor instead.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Doubtful

TPM is a waste of money.

Can't find anyone to program these tire pressure control valves. Been to 3 Ford dealerships, discount tires and many car dealerships in the last 2+ years. Save money and buy beer for a month, better results! Disappointed in Dorman. They've changed the ad since I bought mine. Now they say you need a programmer that sells for an extra $200. A 2012 Ford Escape with 80,000 miles Michelin tires installed so I'll be watching that flashing light for a few more years.

Sensor battery expired

I bought this TPMS because Dorman has a good reputation in the industry. When I received the sensor it appeared to have been opened earlier as the seal on the box that Dorman had stuck to was cut and taped and there was some grease and dirt on the sensor. But it was clean enough to show it hadn't been driven by a car. When I went to program it for installation, the problem with the sensor was obvious - the non-removable battery was dead. Since it has been more than 30 days since purchase, I…

Confused by most people

You must know that to purchase a Multi-Fit sensor you need a special Dorman programmer. This sensor works if you have this programmer but not with many other models. As ASE certified mechanics, most of us use another brand's sensor relearn tool like MAC or SNAP-ON. A just fitted probe works as opposed to a multiple fitted probe with other retraining tools. You need to know what type of retraining device you will be using before deciding which sensor to buy. fits, not multi fits. Bottom line…

Good product. Works as advertised.

Excellent product. Works as advertised. They are actually cloning sensors that have failed (usually due to a dead battery). This system eliminates the need for very expensive TMPS tools to fit new sensors to your vehicle. You must have the 974-503 programming tool to program the 974-301 or 974-302 sensor with the appropriate communication protocol for your particular vehicle and enter the serial number of the TPMS sensor you are replacing. The serial number is not always easy to identify among…

Poor customer service

I took my 2009 Mercedes GL450 to a mechanic to have my original tire sensors replaced. I ordered two and then two more when the mechanic explained that he had done this job before but none of the sensors worked. When I notified this company, the representative only asked me about the tools the mechanic was using and argued with me via email. The mechanic told me that he works at Mercedes dealerships and knows the necessary tools, but Kevin continued. After all, when a product is made, there's…

Good product but needs Dorman's attention

I'm an electrical engineer but I've had problems with it, mostly human problems that took some effort to fix. This TPMS sensor is delivered "blank", ie without the digital address stored in it. The theory is that the user has a Dorman 974-503 programmer that stores in a dead 974-301 sensor the address of a factory TPMS sensor that has a dead battery. In other words, the programmer allows you to clone dead factory sensors. There are several variants of TPMS technology, each offering a different…
