Ideal for those who want to learn to draw

Ideal for those who want to learn to draw. It tells you what pens you use for each project and even how you hold the pen. There are great illustrations that start with a simple straight line and circle and end with a horse, cow, cat or dog. There are landscapes with detailed instructions. I sketched for about 3 weeks with no known art talent and was so amazed at what I was able to create. Provides pleasure and is an excellent stress reliever.

Pros
  • Robust surface

NOT for beginners

Not for beginners. There are some good tutorials out there, but the ABSOLUTE beginner needs at least a drawing class before picking up this book. Preferably two. There is also too much information about tools in the intro. A total beginner only needs paper, a pencil and freehand drawing instructions. circles, lines, squares. I believe if you have the patience to become a good artist or draftsman, you will have the patience to turn a few pages and realize that this book describes…

NOT for beginners!

Even an average student in an art class would have trouble reading this text. You don't get clear instructions, just professionally rendered images that you, a beginner, won't be able to reproduce. I should have known it was a loss when he started teaching you how to draw a coffee cup without telling you that you have to have a coffee cup in front of you to be able to draw. You should have just followed their extremely difficult instructions that will leave you frustrated, demoralized and ready

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Not sure
