🐾 Animal Sketching Review

I really enjoyed this book. Just flipping through the pages and admiring the beautiful sketches was enough to send me to the store for a new sketchbook. I just wish there were more explanations of the technique, a bit of the artist's wisdom about his technique.

I love this book and have bought more than one copy. This is a great link and has helped me a lot with my animal drawings. I love how you can see the development of the painting as well as any suggested sketch lines. The book can be hard to find at times, so grab it if you can. Art teachers and students should have one of these books.

These animal drawings are some of the most beautiful drawings I have ever seen! I learned more about drawing from this book than any other - you don't learn to draw by reading. Draw pictures! Go to the zoo and draw animals. I have to admit that I didn't read the text in this book at all, but I drew each drawing many times, and then I go to the zoo and try it in nature. Then I return to the drawings here and marvel at their sheer magnificence.

This is a great book. Victor Ambrus, the illustrator of this book, is a gifted draftsman. Ambrus studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts and at the Royal College of Art in London. He illustrated about 300 books; I also highly recommend his book on figure drawing. The drawings in this book are very expressive and seem deceptively simple, but years of skill and practice give the draftsman the ability to edit and reduce the amount of information written.
