I always thought they were meant to speed drying. Although they are soft and comfortable to wear, I found my hair was wetter than if I had just left it in a regular bath towel. So I'm not sure what the point of them is. However, I rarely let my hair air dry completely. I usually let it dry most of the time and then blow dry it. This hair dryer towel set is ok, the microfiber weave is relatively absorbent but not as absorbent as the cotton towel set I have to compare. They're reasonably well constructed, have held up to multiple washes and have survived summers at the beach. They're not bad, but could be a little more absorbent. Recommended.
