I bought this on the recommendation of a pet drinker reviewer who found that it solved a ubiquitous problem of slime build-up associated with using carbon filters from the drinker manufacturer. The reviewer was right; This filter is great for that purpose. If I had an aquarium, I would have no hesitation in using it there.

Well I got my first canister filter this year and I've recently learned that a double sponge like this really needs to be cut properly. I may have done it backwards. But otherwise I have no problem with the filter material and its ability to collect debris. The slight downside is that my canister is bigger than some I've seen and the filter pad only has room for a maximum of 3 cuts. So I just need a bigger roll, a simple solution.

This filter material is great! It's thick and not thin like others I've tried in the past. I used this in my HOB AquaClear 110 for a turtle tank by placing it over a white foam filter. The blue side is definitely rougher, so make sure you put that blue side down if the water enters your filter from the bottom up. It's easy to cut and has really helped purify my water.

*Update: This thinner version doesn't work at all on my drinking fountain. Since the material is much thinner, it is sucked into the grooves of the pump. Finally, I dip my hands into the muddy water and try to move the filter media. I need to find something similar to what was sent to me in my original order. I buy this product for the second time.
