My installation required my shower stall to extend the shower holder with a 2 inch nipple. See photo. If it wasn't for that it would have taken less than half an hour to install and I'm no plumber. Usually you have to lay the lines for the switching/connection valve and from there to the main shower head and the hand unit. You simply screw the entire unit onto the existing shower rail and you're done! It has a built in switch button so you can choose whether water comes out of one or both heads.
