Warning Incorrectly connected!

When using a 4-pin fan splitter, the 3rd pin is the speed pin. This allows your computer to read the fan speed. You miswired both sets of 4 pins. One should have 3 leads, the other should have all 4 leads soldered. Having both fans send RPM data back will result in false readings that will drive any RPM control software crazy and useless. In the worst case, you may end up reading almost twice the actual RPM used, which can be misleading as to the cooling you're getting and can lead to…

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive

Works great!: Case fan

I had a case with 5 fans and only 4 connectors on the motherboard to connect them. Fan with Molex input (old PC power connector) to connect them all, but I only had one Molex connector on my PSU and it was too short. I could either buy a molex extender or a splitter. In my case, the splitter was MUCH smaller than the cables, so I used a splitter and simply split one of the fans on my motherboard in two. It hasn't blown up my computer so far, so I'm happy.

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

The missing pin was intentional.

For anyone worried about missing a pin in one of the connectors, this is the PMW pin that measures RPM. You can only read one speed per fan connector. If you blocked both speed signals you would get an erratic display or possibly not display at all. This product works great.

Pros
  • Handsome
Cons
  • Sad hardware
