Exactly what I wanted

I got this mount for my trip to NP Glacier and damn was I glad I did. I've used it with a Canon 200-400L/4 x1.4/5.6 (which is very heavy) and a Wimberley gimbal. For transport/storage purposes, I recommend detaching the front panel and putting it back on the main unit. Remember what you did, otherwise it will be difficult for you to restore the original working configuration ;) Some pictures: [.]

Very useful addition Possibly

This mount really provides a solid base for ball heads, gimbals and even garbage bags. However, this is very individual and some may find it excessive or too restrictive. At first I found this to be a problem on my 2011 Outback. It didn't quite fit me as I had hoped and bothered me when driving. After a while I decided it was worth it as I guess I got used to it. I've found that I can't go far with a door mounted lens, but it attaches quickly so I'll wait until I'm in an area that offers…

Sturdy, durable and lightweight construction.

Fits my car door perfectly, adjusts to the width of the door and slides in and the panel adjusts to the length of the armrest. I screwed my gimbal head directly into the plate screw and after our bad weather clears up I'll test it outdoors. It looks very solid and has a solid and lightweight build. It also doubles as a beanbag platform to support my smaller lens. .
