Hit or Miss on my review.

Bits seem poor quality, expect to get better ones if you're working with hardwood. They cut poorly in red oak and one snapped off in the hole. Also on angled cuts, the guide seems to put the big bottom hole too close to the end of the railing. Was able to get it to fit by drilling the end hole farther, past/through the bottom hole, and starting the tensioner before the railing came up against the end newel and the tip of the bolt was still accessible. This set got the job done, but unless…

Pros
  • Easy to use.
Cons
  • Cheap bits

Helpful as expected

I used this because it’s my first railing job. Great way to gain understanding of how to make good looking railings. Thanks for attention.

Pros
  • Works well for precise drilling of the stair rail parts.
Cons
  • Installation using the Railbolt Drill Guide may be time-consuming compared to other methods, slowing down the overall project

Helpful but not absolutely necessary

I used this drill guide for the installation of the handrails to the Newells. It may drill alignment straightforward and quick. For a cleaner 1" hole use a forstner bit, not the provided wood drill.

Pros
  • Drill Bits
Cons
  • The Railbolt Drill Guide may not be widely available in all areas, making it difficult to obtain or replace if necessary
