this solves the problem

There are two types of FireWire, 400 and 800. And especially if you have "older" computers - and by older I mean you didn't buy them yesterday have - encounter this problem. This little device solves those problems: just plug it in. Since it was ($8?) well below what I was willing to pay, I didn't ask the price. I noticed that the $20 option sold at my local electronics store with bulky boxes (which is almost never your best buy) costs something like $20 and comes with a cord - why? Of course…

No problem and BINGO!

Ok, I use Windows, Linux and Mac. For different applications. And I want to continue using my beautiful Canon Vixia HV-30 MiniDV camera which is only 5 or 6 years old. That's new for me! I upgraded to a new Mac (that's my movie only and infotainment system) iMac 2.9 i5 and ran into a Mac backwards compatibility issue which was that it had NO FIRE WIRE PORTS at all. To put it mildly, I was skeptical. So I connected a Thunderbolt to the FW 800, then connected this little elago FW800 to 400…

Reliable and economical Firewire 400 to 800 adapter

Firewire 400->800 and Apple Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2 arrived on time and as described. The Firewire 400->800 adapter is compact and you only need to connect one of three or four adapters together to convert DV tape into digital movies for iMac or cloud storage. Since I have an older and a newer iMac, I already had a few cables with me. First I connected the JVC DV camera with the DV->Firewire 400 cable that came with the camera. Second, I connected the Firewire 400->800 adapter. The seat…

Cheap but useful

Let's say you just bought a new Mac. And you realize it has a Firewire 800 slot, and you have several Firewire 400 hard drive enclosures that you don't want to get rid of. Instead of going out and buying a new Firewire400-Firewire800 cable set to use with your Mac and existing Firewire hard drives, this is an inexpensive solution to your problem. Just buy this one and you can keep using your old FW400 cables and save some money. The adapter has an FW400 slot on one end that you connect your…
