Have used this kettle more than two dozen times and love it. So far the price-performance ratio is good. The temperature control is not very detailed, but good enough in my opinion. It heats the water to the right temperature, but usually exceeds it by a few degrees (due to its function). In general I like the water heater but I couldn't use it for its intended purpose. i'm in the army I bought it for a two week field exercise. It worked great at home, used it a few times to make sure it worked. The detachable carafe from the base is a great feature, as is the ability to regulate the temperature. I have to say the strainer almost sold me. But after brewing black tea for the first time, I had to clean the entire kettle including the heating element and teapot because of the stains. It was too much trouble. Also, every time you just want to heat some water, you have to go through all the different temperatures to get to around 172. I've tried so many of these kettles and they all break no matter the price. They usually fail because of a bad connection to the base plate or a defect in the lid opening mechanism. That's why I decided to buy this budget one, thinking it would still break like the others. I was pleasantly surprised that the quality of this teapot is really good. The knob on the lid is on the top of the lid next to the locks, so the mechanism is simple and less likely to break compared to kettles with a knob on
