Low-end Linux compatible SFP+ NIC

Defined in lspci as 8086:10fb version 01, Intel 82599EBU uses ixgbe module. Works on my late 2000s PCIE motherboard. Nothing to complain about

Runs on Debian 10 Linux and Windows 10

Windows 10, worked out of the box. It took me a bit of time to get it working on Linux as it recognized the card and showed the interfaces, but I had to dig into the boot log (dmesg) to find out that the drivers weren't loading. I downloaded the drivers, installed them and BOOM! I also work on Linux! I see no need to add 10G network adapters to my other devices, I will definitely consider re-ordering these results. sec 53 1.76MB[5] 1.00-2.00s 1.09GB 9.38Gbps 9 2.02MB[5] 2.00-3.00s 1.09GB 9…

Cons

Works great on my 2010 Asus P6X58D PREMIUM

I used it in slot 4 which was an Ex16 slot. I have a dual channel version, one to connect directly to my iscsi box and the other to my LAN. No signs of bottlenecks. I was surprised that there was no problem in my 8 year old bios.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Senior Citizen

Gets HOT Computers & Accessories

If you have a tight case with little airflow, this card may not be for you. It works like a champ but gets very hot. I had to install a fan to keep this card cool. This caused problems with my RAID card sitting above it.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Other

Not compatible with Synology

Works great on my Win10 computer without additional driver installation. However, please note that this adapter is not supported by Synology NAS machines.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • I'm worried

Great for ESXi hypervisor

Works great with my free ESXi hypervisor, but only with official Intel SFP+ modules. Trying to use third party modules just doesn't work on ESXi. They work on Windows and Linux, but not on ESXi. Considering the price of these official modules, buying an official Intel card with modules is almost as cheap.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Almost never

This card just works, period!

Built a pfsense router out of an HP t730 thin client and ran into card problem after card problem. Tried both the trusted Mellanox Connect-X 3 Pro and 4, it won't even start. Tried X520 Intel, only booted intermittently with clearing the CMOS on startup, so no saved settings. Also learn that Intel NICs tend to be unstable with AMD settings. Almost gave up and found Broadcom NetXtreme and voila. No boot problems, pfsense immediately detects my DIY router/firewall and replaces my dd-wrt routers…

Pros
  • Quick replacement
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Apparently requires Intel optics

I am using Ubiquiti SFP+ adapters and this device is not working. I ended up having to use a Mellanox network card. Can't comment on the speed as I couldn't get it to work, but the old Mellanox works great!

Pros
  • Shipping was very fast
Cons
  • Concise instructions
