ER-4XR sound without wires. Excellent.

I've used some very poor BT headphones so my expectations were low. And I was wrong. I hardly notice any difference between the ER4XR with a wired connection to my phone/computer and a BT connection through this device. My only criticism is that I would like the volume control on the BT cable to turn off sometimes too low for the -me volume limit on the iPhone. If you want Etymotic sound but without the wires, this works. I'm really impressed with the sound quality and the ease of BT pairing.

Great product if you want wireless connection with Etymotic headphones

I use it all the time and don't have much to complain about. The only thing they missed were the simple clips they provided to attach the device to a shirt collar. The clamps on the wire immediately detached and became unusable as the device was no longer held in place. I had to add black power tape to try and make the connection tighter and I had good luck with that. I don't know what other design solution they could come up with, but the clips out of the box are almost useless without extra…

Poor quality control

Sounds great when it works. Both the one I bought and the replacement had the same issues which seem to indicate poor design, not a one-off defect. It gives a low battery message when it's half charged and turns off and then works again when you turn it back on. One side stops working and works again Rubber bushings on the wires detach from the battery compartment. This particular DAC chip is available in other Bluetooth devices (including Fiio) that are cheaper and of much better quality. Not…

Incorrect balance of receivers and amplifiers

I used this BT receiver on my ER4XR. Putting on real headphones was pretty easy. The receiver is small and light. Pairing was easy. The sound was ok, I definitely didn't have a "velvet" experience. However, the first thing I noticed was that the right side was louder than the left. I switched left and right to make sure it wasn't a hearing issue. It's not like this. Also, I have 2 Apples, a Quedelix and a Bose hooked up to the same transmitter. None of them have this problem. This is simply…

Good performance but expensive

I have compared this Bluetooth cable/receiver to a cheap $12 Chinese receiver and would say most people would prefer the cheap Chinese version based on price alone. I'm sure only audiophiles who are willing to pay and who want the extra sound quality will be willing to pay the price. I could hear the difference and I'm sure many people will, I just don't think many people are willing to pay dearly for that extra sound quality. I hope and expect the build quality and battery life to outperform…

Don't buy this.: Home Theater

This is proof that Etymotic is an audio company and not a product design company. There are so many weird fixes in this product that I will briefly touch on. The short version of this review reads: no matter how serious you are about sound quality, you should probably buy another cheaper built-in headset instead as it's not worth it, except in most niche cases where you're better off leaving wired headphones. When I'm using this product, struggling with attaching it before or removing it after…

First one died after a few months, second after 3 uses

Let me start by saying that I really LOVE my ER4XRs and have had them for about 2 or 3 years but have had a pair of ER4Ps for over 20 years own 15 years. years ago. But my experience with Etymotions was just terrible. The biggest problem is that the 2 batteries I had don't last long and are not user replaceable. The first one I got, the battery or battery controller in the headphones died after a few months of use, when I then plugged it into the charger it appeared to be charging, the…

Great accessory for Etymotics fans

I bought the Etymotion after much deliberation between it and other Bluetooth DACs (like the Fiio or Quedelix offerings). In the end, I didn't want a cable through my body to a device in my pocket, I wanted something I carried. The latest Etymotic headphones use an unusual MMCX cable, which is right-angle, so there aren't many options for MMCX Bluetooth adapters (unless you want the cable to stick straight out, which isn't ideal). That leaves me with Etymotion for my ER4SR. In general, the…
