I tried this sorting pack hoping to find a new company. I usually use feathers, but they get pretty expensive. With a merkur HD short handle razor (which I am very happy with and have used for many years) I wiped in the direction of the hair and could immediately tell which was good and which sucked balls. Astra, Gillettte and Feather shave well. Others pulled and grabbed their mustache and it hurt like hell.

So far I've found that "soft" blades (eg Derby) work best for my sparse beard. Very sharp non-teflon coated ones (like Feather) shave closer than soft ones, but you have to be careful or you'll cut yourself. I've found that shaving is something you get better at over the course of a year or so. Either way, this is a great way to test 8 popular blade brands. What is the difference between a really CLEAN shave and a regular shave? A really SMOOTH shave is normal in about 3 hours!

I've been wanting to switch to safety razors to save money, they're better for the environment and because I like a closer shave, but I've only tried one brand of blades and they just ripped my face apart. You get a good range of blades for your money to try out to maybe get an idea of which blade works best with your razor. With this sampler you get at least 80 shaves. Of course there are other blades not included in this set that you can find and try later as well. This sampler will start your investigation. Not all blades are created equal and should not be created equal. Choosing the best blade depends on several factors (e.g. razor settings, skin type, facial hair type and facial hair growth pattern).
