There is a metal strip on the underside which prevents the top edge from lying flush. It increases the diameter so it doesn't sit in my 1.2" drain hole. The ring underneath sits directly over the drain hole instead of sitting in it as the ring makes the diameter look more like 1.3 or 1.4 inches rather than 1 inch. How do you say.
