I wasn't sure I'd buy this because of all the fit reviews but it fit me perfectly. There seem to be many versions of the DC-17. I have one with a blue top. It has only one main cone in the middle when taken apart. So I don't think I have an animal that many others seem to have. Maybe they are not perfect for this model, I don't know.

blue washable filters fit well they are made of softer rubber like the original and soy from Cruitial vacuums. other brands are so hard plastic they don't fit directly into the DC 17 Animal (assuming mine is about a 15 now lol). The white filter does not fit properly compared to the original filter and is slightly larger. Let's see if I can return the white for a partial credit and keep the blue.

Because the rubber band is harder than the original filter, you cannot cover the filter with a plastic cap! I read other reviews and people said to push hard. I did this and ended up with the tabs on the lid breaking and I can no longer close the lid over the filter even if I put the original filter back in! I will be returning this filter and have already ordered 2 original filters. popular bidding site, as well as a new filter cover. Unless you want to shell out an extra $20 for a new plastic

Easy installation (on my Dyson DC17 one screw has to be unscrewed). Vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson told me that the HEPA filter never needs to be changed because it's built to last a lifetime - LESSSSSS! My vacuum cleaner used to smell like nasty dog hair all over the house and I didn't even know it had a second (HEPA) filter.
