Overall gel is quite economical compared to tablets. The smell is neutral, not amazing, not bad, does not leave an unpleasant smell on the dishes. I have mixed feelings about the cleanability - seems to clean well but sometimes leaves a bit of a residue. I'm not sure if it's because I applied too much gel. After watching a Technology Connections video about dishwashing tablets that weren't perfect, I wanted to try something different. So I took this gel. I think gel is enough. Cleans well.
