Wow. What is the difference in apartments. I'm a middle-aged mountain biker with far more passion than skill. The kids raced when they were little and have been clipless off-road for over 25 years. A month ago I was rolling slowly on a technical climb when I couldn't unhook. I was inches away from shoulder surgery due to a fractured shoulder blade (a sharp rock left a mark on the rest of my shoulder). At my age, that's impossible. I argued for a long time about the purchase and tried to compensate with athletic shoes or my ear clips (SPD) which I don't like at all due to the technical terrain. In my opinion, freeriders are as good as most people claim. Having experienced BMX in my 20's I wasn't new to flat pedal skateboard style shoes and even though I turned 50 I still liked the cool look but shoes like Vans or DC just didn't work well for mtn .
