Fluke's best auto counter in years!

I like this measuring device very much. I used an older version about 11 years ago and Fluke was definitely the right choice. I'm a certified Master Auto Tech and when I buy tools I bid my time and buy the best products for the job. This meter goes well beyond that. I would highly recommend it to any mechanic or handyman looking into electrical work.

Pros
  • Protection class for category III up to 1000 V and category IV up to 600 V. Operating temperature: -20 °C to 55 °C
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

I've owned 2 of these in 25 years and just bought one for a friend

Fluke 88 is the best automotive multimeter I've ever bought there are I got my first one in 1994, the second one in 2007. This meter never lets me down and I enjoy all the features of this meter and use it daily. Revain is the place to get the Fluke 88 at the best price. 87V is great too, but you use it to take care of the 88's extra features like RPM, Ms for plus width and the standard DC voltage, making the 88 more intuitive for an automotive technician.

Pros
  • DMM measures AC/DC Voltage, AC/DC Current, Resistance, Capacitance, Frequency and Temperature
Cons
  • Safety

I like this gauge, but it has two downsides. I've used Fluke (83 and 87) and other Auto Rangers professionally for years, and while it auto-tunes to a point, I sometimes have to play with the range to see what I want, so this isn't a real car rangefinder. Also, after a few weeks, resistance problems began in the meter cables. apparently you have to flip back and forth between the top two guys every now and then or the resistance seems to build up. This was fixed with a different set of leads…

Pros
  • Temperature measurement -200.0 °C to 1090 °C (-328.0 °F to 1994.0 °F, 1.0% without sensor)
Cons
  • Good for the most part, but...

I don't know of a better multimeter.

I bought my first Fluke 88 in the summer of 1990, almost 30 years ago, and it still works. The only thing wrong with it is that the display is difficult to read, very dim. I called Fluke and asked for a repair, but the meter is so old it is no longer serviced. So I bought this new and updated Fluke 88-5. I don't have much time for this new meter yet, but so far so good. All I can say to anyone reading this review is don't be afraid to buy a Fluke gauge, it's a professional gauge. Take your time

Pros
  • Maximum Duty Cycle or 99.9% within 2% at kHz +0.1%
Cons
  • Loudness

The best multimeter is

Our electronics workshop specializes in car computers. I have a Fluke 88V that has been used every day for almost 10 years and two others that are only 1-2 years old. Fluke advertises them as very accurate, but what matters to us is the speed with which they respond. All other multimeters take 2-3 seconds for the reading to stabilize. So when you take a reading you sit and wait for it to stabilize, not being entirely sure if what you are seeing is the end result or if it will change. again. On…

Pros
  • Maximum resistance 50MΩ
Cons
  • Almost never
