Better wood chips or sawdust.

I really love this product for wine making. This is much more convenient than shavings or dust clogging the siphon tube. I would suggest you poke a small hole and use fishing line to easily pull it out of the bottle when you're done with this, or you can do like I did and make a rack and just pour it out when the bottle is out empty.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Poor set

Good taste, not very practical

I'm a big fan of French oak whisky! Adds good taste, requires trial and error. My two biggest complaints relate to my bottle conversions. It's not easy to break off a small piece for a bottle. And the wand doesn't fit in the bottle. I usually have a few different tools to cut it open and then break it to fit the bottle.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • There are some disadvantages

I tried it and it tasted like the inside of a dresser drawer

I found them too strong. I only used half the coil, soaked it in bourbon, replaced the bourbon and soaked with fresh bourbon. Then I added half a coil to 5 gallons of stout. Just three days later I tasted it and it tasted like the inside of a dresser. I think next time I'll try to use just a quarter. Or go back to dice as I don't know if that works for small batches.

Pros
  • Quick Change
Cons
  • Almost never

Oak barrels are too big, try these.

I've been making wine for 3 years now and as I increased my bottlings the need to add oak flavor to this wine was applied in many ways. Initially, oak chips were placed in the containers after aging. OK! but very messy to remove from containers. Oak cubes are better, but not by much. Then I found barrel mill coils and they were great for small tanks but too big for bottles. French oak infusion spirals are smaller and fit directly into the bottles. My biggest concern is that the directions say 2

Pros
  • I'm holding my fists
Cons
  • Hard to say
