Timothy the Toolman

With my purchases I finally came to the conclusion that when a product bears the Freud name, I stop looking elsewhere. The edge always stays sharp for a very long time and the price is always reasonable for the quality of the product. I have used Freud cutters on my CNC and they have lasted as long or longer than any other cutters I have purchased.

Pros
  • Milling Machine Parts & Accessories
Cons
  • High Price

Slightly annoying cutter

If you look closely at the specifications, this cutter only has a cutting depth of 7/16" instead of 1/2". I've found it to wobble and create awful looking V-cuts if it digs too deep. I can't even set this setting in the bit profile in Carveco and instead have to use the max depth setting in the toolpath generation areas to limit it to 7/16". Annoying, but other than that it seems to cut well.

Pros
  • Edge and groove cutter
Cons
  • No power

These Freud bits are great most of the time! It's worth the extra cost to get something that will last longer than the cheaper ones. But lately I've been having problems. Looks like they're having quality control issues. Revain sent me a replacement when I noticed after the first cut that the bit had a flat point. I thought it just broke due to a defect, but when "NEW" came it had the same FLAT TIP! So Revain sent me another replacement and hopefully it's a good one. If not, I guess I'll have…

Pros
  • Power and hand tools
Cons
  • Drill kit
