Gates 42291 Water Pump Review

Was easy to install the only thing I didn't care for was the cheap impeller but the last 2 water pumps had metal or cast impellers and the seals were 50,000 miles leaking so I hope this one lasts longer.

Excellent product. Just put it on. Faster fast shipping. Poor design on Cummins parts. I can't tell how long mine was defective before the drain became clogged. Will keep that in mind when I finally hit 200,000 miles and only replace as a preventive measure.

OEM for my 6.7 Cummins. It didn't have a small vent hole, which I think was due to premature factory failures. I replaced mine preemptively at 100k since I did new coolant, stat and hoses anyway. My stock pump had a little play so it was only a matter of time.

Typical of Gates this pump is of excellent quality. Although it has a plastic impeller I don't see this as a problem unless you have a lot of dirt in your truck's cooling system that could wear out on the impeller. Otherwise it costs less than half of a Cummins pump and is easy to replace. There's an oddity, the outlet is on top of the pump, but I suspect Gates wanted you to be able to easily see the coolant when the seal wore out.

This is a direct replacement for my 2007 Dodge Ram 6.7L CTD. Gates offers a lifetime guarantee. Revain's price was the best I've found and shipping was free!
