I bought this based on advice I had gathered about quiet and reliable home theater DVD players. The price really tickled my inner tightrope. She totally suits me. It's very quiet and easily reads chipped, scratched Netflix DVDs. I haven't had any fit/finish issues as others have described. It looked fine and all the screws lined up and worked. Discs work but won't mount automatically as all file types play, including the ones I burn onto the discs myself. I think it's some kind of software or program problem that I don't know how to solve. Whether this is a quality difference or not, I really don't know. .

Relatively quiet and works well. There is nothing more to say about the optical drive. It was nice to get retail packaging (complete with screws and cable) for once.

Purchased this item on 12th July 2016. I received the CD and it says it was made in 2011. turned 5 years old on the first day of use.

I originally thought this drive was faulty but it doesn't work at all with either of my two lite-on drives. In itself it works perfectly on a little used control board.

I build my own setups and always use quality components. Although burners were bought from reputable manufacturers, recently they kept dying after 2-3 years of average use. I stumbled across this unit after my 3 year old Asus drive just died and based on the reviews decided to take a chance. Although I've never heard of GearHead, the drive seems well made and the performance is pretty good. Only time will tell if it actually outperforms the others, but for now it looks like a good buy.

I bought this product because my old DVD drive failed. Works great and very quiet. Similar DVD drives read my DVDs slightly better and were cheaper, hence the 4 stars in the test.
