It's a bit annoying having to hold the power button around.

Works very well and as expected. It's a little annoying having to hold the power button for about 10 seconds to turn it on, as I might do a couple of times at work (Home Inspector). But I think I can live with that. It's also quite cumbersome; The other meters I had were much smaller.

Pros
  • This is amazing

Measures the humidity. Well basically

The pin mode is very accurate but the underground worked for about 3 days and now it is far from accurate. In principle we can say that it is broken. If you test it on your arm, the reading shows 12% on bare skin. If you want something that will do the trick, that's fine. If you need professional results time and time again, I'd recommend the GE Protimeter, but it costs four times as much. I had a contractor who stole mine and bought it for the price in an emergency. No regrets, just be aware…

Pros
  • Very good value
Cons
  • Appearance

Once the tester got used to the difference between WME and Relative Humidity it worked quickly and efficiently. This device costs about half the price of others I've considered. I was able to find a chart/graph online showing the correlation between WME (Wood Moisture Equivalent) and Relative Humidity. It was very helpful. This device works best in WME mode for external applications. I ordered an extra 5" probe but couldn't get it to work and the "remote" contacts worked intermittently…

Great tool at a great price

I bought this tool to inspect our fiberglass boat for leaks and water damage around the mast and chain plates. But our boat is now under 12 inches of snow. So I tried it in our bathroom where I had water issues. I used the ball to map the dimensions of the area where we occasionally have ice leaks. Yes, the water damage is still there, no wonder. I also noticed about twice as much moisture under the floor tiles in front of the shower as under the bathroom door. I haven't used pins yet. If you…

This article is amazing. You know

guys this thing is amazing. You know, I went online to find something I wasn't quite sure what gear to take with me. I work as a plumber but only specialize in maintenance and repairs in a small community and don't want to invest a lot of money in something that might not be very useful to me. Well, needless to say, this thing is the bomb. And I didn't even find it necessary to use a wire mount with pins. But knowing how good this device is, the nozzle could be useful for other applications…

Pros
  • Great for a small house

A handy tool to check for leaks/damage at home

Failed to load media. One afternoon I noticed water damage on the side of a kitchen cabinet. I thought the dishwasher might be leaking so I called the contractor (it was a new house) and while I was leaving a message I also ordered this moisture meter. The switch arrived well before the contractor called me back, and with the switch in hand, I began checking everything. And I was scared, very, very scared. The meter showed humidity above 50% in some places in the cabinets and 30% on the wooden…

Why did I choose this meter over the FLIR MR59?

I apologize in advance to the readers for the long message, but I think that the background on which I formed my opinion will be more useful to you than just my opinion. MMD950 before making checks at home many times with another inspector. It was his device and I always had to take it out of his pocket to check my own moisture meter. about the same price (MR59 Sphere Probe Moisture Meter $199.00). I ordered Flir thinking it HAS to be better. I mean it's made by Flir right?!?! Not correct. and…
