I bought this tool to inspect our fiberglass boat for leaks and water damage around the mast and chain plates. But our boat is now under 12 inches of snow. So I tried it in our bathroom where I had water issues. I used the ball to map the dimensions of the area where we occasionally have ice leaks. Yes, the water damage is still there, no wonder. I also noticed about twice as much moisture under the floor tiles in front of the shower as under the bathroom door. I haven't used pins yet. If you use pens, you can get the absolute water percentage. When using a ball, you can only compare one area to another. Seems to be a great tool for the price. It comes in a nice case and is pre-charged with a 9V battery. There are two additional sets of pins with slightly different shapes. The pens are covered to prevent loss or damage. Since I originally posted this the snow has melted and I've been able to check out the boat. The counter seems to work. When I drilled holes for the Genoese track bolts, the moisture and wear on the core matched up nicely where they should be. At least in the relative humidity mode, the meter seems to be very reliable.
