When I first opened the case I wasn't sure if it would work but after taking a deep breath I started playing with it and realized that each of the 40 rubber bands would hold 3 of my crayons, so this holds 120 pencils really well. I received this case after carefully researching many others. This case does not have separate slots for each pin. Rather, three pins should fit under each rubber band. Many reviews said the straps are too tight to hold three pens. I took the advice of others who said you can only hold two pins on each strap. I thought that was absolutely right. I put 3 pencils in one slot and can put 2 gel pens in each slot.
