Great value - decent accuracy

This $8 sensor is a great deal. I checked its accuracy with a known good vernier caliper and found it to be about 0.010 inch off - less than 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch). The sensor can resolve 1/10th of 1/32 inch or that is 0.003 inch. Repeatability is somewhat dependent on measurement technique, but if you are careful you can get repeat measurements within that 0.003 inch. There is one critical review that speaks of inaccuracies in soft tires; I've used this sensor on soft winter tires and it…

Game Changer, Must-Have for DRP Collision Shop Estimators

This product alone has significantly reduced my overall damage estimation process by more than half. reduced protector or just bald. I had trouble getting great shots with the electronic style or the simple pocket pin style. This offset is up to you or your angle is off and showing incorrect readings. Because it's a flat-bottomed round shape, you can use it in tighter spaces and just leave it on the tire after measuring the depth and getting an award-winning picture. (jokingly you actually get…

Quality OK but miscalibrated

I waited a bit longer to get this version as some other similar sensors weren't verified either but the one I got doesn't seem that good either to be. When placed on a flat surface with the stylus aligned with the ground, readings are taken for more than 32 seconds (see first photo). I checked this with my Starrett calipers and they confirmed that the tire scale is off by 1/32 when zeroed on level ground. If you zero the needle on the scale you can see the 1/32 indicator sticking out from the…

Oddly good for tools and gear

I spent some time researching tire depth gauges, from pencil to digital, and found that everyone had problems with every design. Pencil styles are harder to read, less precise, etc., but they're cheap. The digital ones are easy to read, but the batteries always seem to run out when you need them. I thought I'd buy a pencil from a local store for a few bucks when I found this one. I don't think the photos do it justice as it feels a lot heavier in the hand than it looks. It is metal with a clear

Easy to use and accurate

Essentially a low cost machine operator dial gauge with low resolution. Instead of reading 1/10,000 of an inch, the numbered MAJOR dial divisions each represent 1/32 of an inch. (0.03125 inches). The dial is calibrated with 4 divisions of 1/32, so each division equals 1/128 inch or 0.00781 inch. The index markers on this dial are in fractions of an inch, not metric units as some reviews suggest. With proper zeroing, it is easy to estimate tread depth to within 0.004 inches. Since the depth…
