Plastic. plastic screws. Doesn't hold much weight before tipping over. You need a small tree and hope the plastic screws will go through the thin stump. Only 3 screws so the base of the tree kept slipping and falling off. You need 4 screws. I think for the price you get what you pay for. (Why are tree stands so damn expensive?!)

For those who want to make it - this stand is perfect for use in a faux wood basket. The screws reached the post (only about 1 inch in diameter). To make it more secure, I wrapped a small piece of cardboard around the stem so the screws could catch on it. The basket measures 14 inches at the smallest side and fits perfectly.
